TikTok to focus on credibility, regulation and expansion in year 2020

The vertical video Chinese company is taking significant steps in the direction of regulation in India. TikTok has been having tough time in India as there were many regulatory bodies which have raised questions over influence of TikTok over its users, Including Madras High Court.

There is a four-step moderation process to review posts so as to maintain the platform’s credibility, its country head Nikhil Gandhi said.

TikTok has been in the news for last 2 years now, owing to its ban by madras high court last year. It has also banned accounts of several user who posted political content on their platform.

Speaking at an IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) event, Gandhi said the Chinese company, which has 200 million users, has “democratised” the art and culture scene in India.

When asked about outlook for 2020, he said, “There is going to be great impetus on self-regulation and shared responsibility of the fact that we have to post responsibly and more importantly, create awareness about positive change”.

He also rightly pointed out that the Chinese company has had tremendous growth in content consumption as people prefer short vertical videos over long horizontal videos.

He also said that when surveyed 50% people watch IPL in vertical format than horizontal. This indicates that vertical videos fit better on mobiles devices and have better connect with their audience.
