Rethink: – Where technology and medical expertise go hand-in-hand for the greater good

Use of instrumental and hardware tech has been introduced in the medical field for many years but use of Information technology has not been used large scale to help patients. This needed to be addressed severely as there is vast room for improvement in that department. Rethink is exactly bridging this gap by developing platform that provides medical care from long distances using their flagship platform. Due to introduction of this platform the patients can be diagnosed much faster with direct interaction with the expert. It also solves the problem of scarcity of medical experts that is being felt at the moment in the medical industry.

Rethink is a global health technology company that works with medical practitioners, caregivers, patients and educationists. Rethink determined that the only way to deliver clinical best practice treatment in a scalable way was to leverage technology to train whoever was caring for the individual with the developmental disability how to deliver the treatment.  This would impact all the entities revolving around the care of this population, including in the school, in the home, and in the healthcare system.  Rethink found extensive research on the effectiveness of video modelling for training in fields such as medicine and the military and decided to combine this proven method of instruction with the proven and medically-recommended ABA treatment methodology, creating an online training and support system for individuals with a developmental disability and their caregivers worldwide.

A great leadership and vision at the core

Rethink has been enjoying success because of its extraordinary work culture and workforce which was built with vision and passion by CEO, Daniel etra. Daniel has held many decision making positions in various other companies before co-founding Rethink including being the CEO of R.E.R international, a supplier of printed materials to the retail industry. He has worked in healthcare sector for more than 15 years now and also volunteers in the Pediatric Department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center working with children ages 3 months to 15+ years old.

Daniel, with his team, maps out the organizations vision and motivates them to achieve its goals. A sufficient decision making power is vested by him in his employees to execute on that vision. He inspires his team with an example and encouragement. A great leader always needs to keep an eye on the big picture and ensure action is taken. His leadership style is non-hierarchical and he tries to let his team reach decisions on their own but is not afraid to step in as necessary.

Daniel is always in touch with his core team on ground level and meets and discusses strategy on daily basis. Heads of their three divisions i.e. Education, Employer and behavioural health provider, meet with him to review performance and ways rethink’s business can improve.

Daniel is also involved with National heath Plan to explore how rethink’s technology can be used to improve care delivery and drive better patient outcomes. He also speaks at various healthcare conferences across world on application of technology in behavioural health.

Challenges in the market and overcoming them

Rethink faced many initial challenges but have overcome them overtime. There are still some challenges like lack of streamlined partnership process in National health plans which can slow down the procedure of partnership and engagement of new programs.

For overcoming them rethink would like to see big companies in the market to step up and deploy pilot programs rapidly so that the medical care organisation become more willing to try innovative approaches. Which will eventually brig speed and efficiency to the market.

One of the challenges is privacy protection and exchange of data between disparate systems. As the volume of data increases with increase in patients, that data is useful in creating datasets which will be useful in deriving valuable insights in the market. But privacy protection needs to be increased in order to safeguard the sensitive information.

Key Benefits of rethink’s global healthcare tech solution

Rethink offers the industry-leading practice management platform for behavioral health providers specializing in individuals with autism and related disorders. Used by hundreds of providers serving tens of thousands of children nationwide, the software helps improve treatment outcomes by simplifying/automating work flows, improving staff training, and ensuring standardization and clinical fidelity of care delivery.

Rethink also offers the industry-leading training and support platform for employees caring for dependents with a developmental disability.  Rethink’s clients range from employers with under 1000 employees to over 500,000 employees, and across its book of business Rethink covers over 7 million lives.  Research clearly demonstrates the impact of caring for a dependent with a developmental disability – from over twice the rates of anxiety and depression to thousands of dollars annually in lost productivity.  Indeed, over half of caregivers work fewer hours or leave the workforce to accommodate the needs of their child. The Rethink program helps support these employees, directly impacting their productivity in the workplace, and helps employers create a culture of wellness for their entire workforce.

Lastly, Rethink offers the industry-leading special needs management platform for public school districts. Serving all students with a special need as well as those requiring behaviour support, the Rethink program is used by hundreds of districts in all 50 states, ranging from large urban systems like New York City, San Francisco, Dallas, Denver and others, down to small rural districts.  The Rethink program allows districts to fully meet Federal IDEA requirements as well as a variety of state-based legislative mandates to provide an adequate education to students with a special need.  The program also helps districts train staff and accurately measure the progress of a student population not subject to mainstream standardized testing.  District clients have reported superior student outcomes and significant cost savings in mitigating the need for out of district placements than can run up to $100,000 per year per student for private programs.

Client satisfaction speaks to the success of rethink

Rethink has partnered with many clients but what Costco had to say after their experience, will alone make you understand the magnitude of success rethink has achieved.

One of the most critical needs in employee benefits is supporting employees caring for a child with a developmental disability such as autism or ADHD. Costco Wholesale decided to be proactive and offer unique supports such as the Rethink program to these employees, who make up nearly 20% of the workforce.  As Donna Sexton, the Director of Employee Benefits at Costco, said: “I can’t think of any benefits we’ve ever added to our suite that got so much attention and so many letters to our president, thanking him for bringing Rethink on, and what a difference it was going to make in their lives.”

Goals and future plans

One of the emerging trends in healthcare technology today is Big Data and the use of AI to give medical professionals valuable insight into how best to treat their patients.  Today, there is no way to accurately predict the outcomes of interventions among individuals with developmental disabilities.  Rethink is helping address this issue by gathering the largest data set of outcomes associated with this population, a data set that one day will be used to develop the right treatment protocols and facilitate the predictability of outcomes. Rethink is completely changing the landscape of this category of healthcare by introducing a platform that is robust, reliable and revolutionary.
